Art at Hopewood

Celebrated symbolic landscape and fine art painter Tim Storrier trained at the National Art School in Sydney between 1967 and 1969. Storrier has held solo exhibitions in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and internationally in Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom. Survey exhibitions of Storrier’s work include ‘Tickets to Egypt’ which toured to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

Storrier has been awarded the Sulman Prize twice, 1968 and 1984, the Archibald Prize 2012, Archibald Packing Room Prize 2014, Doug Moran Portrait Prize 2017, Wynne Prize Finalist 2018. The artist was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia in 1994 and was made trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1989. His work is held by the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; most state galleries, several regional and tertiary collections and internationally by MOMA, New York. Three significant monographs of the artists work have been published ‘Tim Storrier: The Art Of The Outsider’ 2000, ‘Lines of fire: Tim Storrier’ 2003 and ‘Tim Storrier’ by Lou Klepac 2018.

Storrier was awarded the Order of Australia AM for his services to art; and a Doctor of Arts (Hons.) from Charles Sturt University, New South Wales. Born in 1949 in Sydney, Tim is the current custodian of Hopewood House with his wife Janet. Tim’s private studio and gallery is within the grounds of Hopewood House, by appointment only.

Tim’s sculptures are some of the works in the garden, which is maintained by Janet and a dedicated team of gardeners. Tim paints in his studio within The Pavilion building on the top of the hill, where he also has a private gallery. By appointment only.
